The Meriden Lions Club, organized in 1923, is composed of individuals from various business sectors in the community. We focus our efforts on supporting the blind and handicapped and on a variety of community service projects. Some recent or ongoing projects include:
- Building of Spray Water Park for the City of Meriden
- Refurbishing of the bathrooms at the YMCA Outdoor Center
- Annual Foliage tours for the elderly residents of convalescent homes
- Development of Computer Center at the Boys and Girls Club
- Reconstruct and refurbish Red Bridge
- Provide handicap parking area and columns at Quinnipiac River Gorge Trail
- Provide storage facility at BMX Falcon Field Track
Each October for more than 30 years, and a continuing annual event, approximately 100 residents of local nursing homes are taken by chartered buses along scenic routes to view fall foliage and then treated to lunch before being returned to their residences. Chairman of this special project is George Carabetta, Sr.
We also make donations to various local and statewide organizations, such as: * J.D. Nerden Camp for the Handicapped * Boy and Girl Scouts * Eye Research Centers at Yale and UCONN * YWCA * Juvenile Diabetes * Curtis Home for Children * Midstate Medical Center * Project Graduation * Camp Hemlocks
